That's a great observation, Marcelo. Something I didn't touch on was how the business model wrangling can either accelerate or inhibit the adoption. In a lot of respects this is what limited Tivo so dramatically, a business model that created conflict with their distribution strategy (going retail but really needing cable to effectively OEM them). The same issue plays out with the example you describe. Consumer electronics business model + the PC business model + the cable/telco business model = stalemate, and where the consumer suffers as a result.

I have a similar feeling about the general personal media storage/delivery space. I have my music, my home-made movies and my pictures, yet, it's such a pain to access it on multiple devices or store them on the cloud, or index them, or whatever.

The technology exists for a decade, but no one has been able to pull it off. I remembered when we talked about the convergence of TV and PC. That is still 15 years away and it has nothing to do w/ technology (because it's all here). It has to do with the complexity of the business model of the involved parties and with a significant rate of adoption that justifies those parties to accept change.

I'm still waiting for my centralized media storage with ubiquitous access on all my devices.
